Johnny's Health Blog 6-23-15
Good afternoon everyone! Today the blood sugar count was 162. Why the jump up? Because yours truly decided to cheat a little the past couple days (not today) and I ate some sweet potato fries, a processed bun on my burger and a small serving of ice cream on Sunday. I'll get it back down but I've learned my lesson (again) about too much cheating.
Today I'd like to talk about vitamins/supplements. There are thousands of companies all claiming to have your "magic vitamin or regimen". If you take their stuff everything will be awesome! Of course in very fine print they state that the results are atypical and also consisted of proper diet and exercise. Oh really? Did you forget to read that part? I was at our health food store the other day and the juice bartender told me a story about a guy who came in with gout. He wanted a supplement to take care of his gout. The salesperson proceeded to tell him about the diet/exercise changes he should make and he got defensive. He said "no I don't want a lifestyle change what I want are the supplements to take to counteract my condition of gout." I shake my head at people like that but yet I used to be one of them!!! I thought if I took my vitamins all my nutritional needs were set. I could eat all the crap I wanted, smoke, drink and everything would be ok with my vitamins. Fast forward about 10 years and here I sit with type 2 diabetes. I found a good article that deals with this subject. The vitamins you get should be in the foods you eat and things you drink not just in a pill. The article can be found here:
While there's nothing wrong with supplements make sure you get some that are made with WHOLE FOODS, not the fake synthetic crap sold in most big box stores. I take supplements myself but I don't rely on them to do the trick on their own. Bottom line is DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! Just because a supplement company has some testimonials, a supposedly lucrative pay plan (MLM) and fancy labels and brochures doesn't mean they're any better than the whole food vitamins you could find in the local health food store.
Drinking a freshly juiced one to your health,
Johnny Storm
